BUILDING CONNECTIONS, CRAFTING COMMUNITY
The Men's Shed Grande Prairie is part of an international, grassroots, member-driven Men's Shed movement. Men's Shed provides a welcoming space where men of all ages can come together to share skills, engage in hands-on projects, and foster friendships. Whether you're looking to learn something new or enjoy some good company, Men's Shed is the perfect place to connect.
TRADITIONALLY, MEN'S SHED ARE BASED ON WOODWORKING FOR A FEW REASONS:
Producing a quality product with minimal skills is quite easy.
Many men have had some experience with woodworking.
The cost of the equipment is reasonable.
The opportunity to gain more skills.
A BRIEF HISTORY
When the first Men’s Shed program was created in Australia in 2006, Richard became interested in the model right away. He explains, “Men’s Sheds were literally sheds in the local parks. The program began as a government initiative for new Australians to meet other citizens. The sheds provided basic home maintenance tools for men who had just arrived in Australia and did not know anyone from whom to borrow tools.”

The Men’s Shed came to Canada in 2011. It was started in Manitoba by Doug Mackie and has since grown across the province and around the world.
